IF your sweet tooth suddenly demands attention or if the craving for ice cream hits you, there’s one place you can check out on Beach Road, San Jose called Sweets ‘n Treats.
The Sweets ‘n Treats ice cream parlor, which used to occupy a stall at the Sablan building in Chalan Kanoa, moved to its present location in February this year, making it more accessible for clients to come for a bite of their favorite ice cream and sundae on any day.
It had been months ago since I’ve had the luxury of licking ice cream from a cone so I decided to check out this place with a buddy on a hot Friday afternoon. Forgetting about my sore throat, I gave in to a moment of weakness and went straight to the counter to order not a single but a double scoop in a cone.
I opted for Mint Chip on the bottom topped with a scoop of Mocha Almond Fudge and was soon trying to win a losing but delightful battle of catching the ice cream with my tongue before it cascades down the side of the cone. My buddy opted for a scoop of Cascades’ Moose Track topped with a scoop of Pistachio Nut. A group of students came in after us, followed by a family with two kids who all enjoyed scoops of ice cream and sundaes.
Very soon, double scoops were but a memory as we stood up to leave, promising to be back when the “ice cream craze” hits us again.
Other flavors available are vanilla, butter finger, chocolate, strawberry, strawberry cheesecake, ube, coconut pineapple, rocky road, kona coffee, and low fat peach yogurt for the diet conscious.
A regular single scoop cone or cup is $1.95 while a double scoop in a cone or in a cup is $2.95. You can also try the milk shake or the rootbeer float for $3.50, or the malt shake for $3.75. Add $.50 more to get more toppings for your ice cream such as Oreo cookies, marshmallows, coconut granola or chocolate chips.
Sweets ‘n Treats owner manager Elna Delos Santos said the shop’s best seller is the Brownie Sundae which includes a fresh baked sundae, two scoops of ice cream, one sauce and one topping for $3.95. The banana split, another favorite, comes with three scoops of ice cream, two toppings and one sauce for $5.95.
Delos Santos said they offer various brands of ice cream to meet the different preferences of various customers. Sweets ‘n Treats carry Foremost, Dryers, Cascade and other brands of ice cream.
“We don’t stick to one brand because some customers like one flavor that is available in different brands,” she said.
Sweets ‘n Treats also serves hot dog and corn dogs, chips, popcorn and other sweets.
Delos Santos said they accept advance orders for three-gallon size ice cream of any flavor for special occasions. Birthday celebrations can also be held at Sweets & Treats for groups of 10 or more children.
The cozy atmosphere at Sweet ‘n Treats provides an ideal place to spend time with friends and family over affordably priced sweet treats. It’s one place where you can relieve your childhood joys and lick an ice cream cone without being conscious of drops and drips but simply enjoy those special “ice cream moments.”
Sweets ‘n Treats is open from 12 noon to 9 p.m. every day. Only cash is accepted for now.
