The invitingly refreshing whir of the blender triggers anticipation as it chugs and churns out delicious blends of coffee, chocolate, fresh fruit or whatever your palates dictate. Just sitting on the high wooden stools on the counter is enough to tease your senses to anticipate a long cool drink on a blisteringly hot day, or a hot drink on a cool or ordinary day.
Abai is a popular hangout for locals and foreigners alike to quench your thirst or just give in to the clamor for fresh fruit shakes, delicious halo-halo, sorbet and the Abai’s specials- the frappucino, oreo frappuccino, coffee caramel, choco caramel and milktea whip caramel.
Friendly staff Muriel Reamucio and Marie prepared three of Abai’s best sellers to feature: the special halo-halo served in a huge bowl and topped with two servings of ice cream came first, so temptingly delicious you just have to give in and indulge in it. Muriel next served oreo frappuccino which came in a transparent glass where you can see through tapioca pearls swimming in blended coffee. Swirls of whipped cream topped the coffee and sprinkled with crushed oreo cookies. Dip a straw and sip to experience pure bliss.
A glass of freshly-blended watermelon came next, au naturel without any frills and you leave the place fully satiated. I was unable to resist the temptation, digging into the halo-halo and sipping the Oreo Frappuccino and ignoring the nagging thought that I just came from the gym for a workout.
Abai Ice sells the halo-halo for only $1.25, $1.75, $2.25 and $2.75 for the small, medium, large and special respectively. The oreo frappuccino is only $2 for small, $2.50 for medium and $3 for large.
Other fresh fruit Sorbet is available in different flavors like almond, cappuccino, chocolate, coffee, coconut, papaya, taro, watermelon, blue berry, lychee, loverfruit, pineapple, passion, strawberry and kiwi. They also serve snacks like burgers and sandwiches, hot and cold coffee.
You simply have to drop by Abai ice beside the post office for a taste of their specialties. Abai ice is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the rest of the week. Please call 488-5589 and look for Muriel or Irish Geronimo for reservations/orders. RCB
